This famous arioso comes from the cantata “Ich steh mit einem Fuss im Grabe”, BWV 156, and was composed for oboe.
The same melody also appears in the harpsichord concerto in F minor, BWV 1056. In this concerto, the middle movement 'Largo' is composed in A flat major.
